More About Myofascial Release

Foot Massage

What is Myofascial Release (MFR)?

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, organ, and structure in the body — an intelligent, three-dimensional web that holds everything together. When we experience injury, stress, trauma, or poor posture, fascia can tighten and solidify, creating deep restrictions that often don’t show up on scans like MRIs or X-rays. These restrictions can produce up to 2,000 pounds of pressure per square inch — enough to cause real pain and dysfunction.

MFR is a gentle, hands-on approach that works directly with this tissue. Unlike deep tissue massage, MFR uses sustained pressure and stillness to soften, hydrate, and unwind the fascia — helping the body return to natural flow, ease, and alignment.

Sessions are slow and intentional. You may feel a deep unwinding, emotional release, or simply more space in your body. Over time, this work can help shift us out of "fight or flight" and back into a place of movement, presence, and possibility.

During your MFR session:

MFR uses gentle, sustained pressure — often held in the same spot for several minutes — to give your body time to respond. These longer holds allow the fascial system to feel safe enough to unwind its protective grip and reorganize into a more open, fluid state. This is slow, deep work that speaks to the nervous system and subconscious. Healing happens in the pauses.

My role is to create a safe, grounded space for your system to do what it knows how to do: unlock, re-pattern, and remember its natural intelligence. Together, we can decrease physical discomfort, regulate the nervous system, and create the opportunity for greater self-discovery.

What to Wear:

To engage your fascial system, while also allowing gentle movement, I work with skin contact over soft, breathable fabrics.

  • Women: sports bra and shorts (or similar two‑piece)—whatever you’re comfortable moving in.

  • Men: shorts (ideally athletic or drawstring styles).

  • Exposure of key areas lets me observe subtle signals—areas of tension, redness, or movement—so I can guide the work precisely.

  • Please refrain from using body oils or heavy lotions before your session, as they can cause hand slippage and reduce the effectiveness of the work.
